'Brilliant' cleaning ingredient eats up powerful mould growing in your ceiling
Many homes will start seeing signs of mould at this time of year. Lingering moisture in the air creates the perfect breeding ground for mould, and while you might commonly see it in the bathroom where there's often a lot of moisture, the winter months can make the nasty substance grow in other areas of the home because the cold air from outside mixes with the warm air inside and creates condensation.
Treating mould can be tricky, and what's even more annoying for many homes is that even when you've managed to clean it away, it will find a way to grow back if you don't take proper steps to prevent it. Thankfully though, fans of cleaning guru Mrs Hinch have shared their favourite mould-busting products that can stop the fungus in its tracks.
Posting on a cleaning tips page on Facebook, many cleaning enthusiasts heaped praise on a Cillit Bang product that claims to clean black mould. The product, which carries the full title of Cillit Bang Power Cleaner Black Mould Remover Spray, is available for £3.50 from Tesco for a 750ml bottle, while Amazon stocks it for slightly cheaper at £3.28 a bottle.
And according to cleaning fans, the product is "brilliant" at removing mould in no time at all. One person said: "Absolutely brilliant this stuff. My bathroom was shocking, really thought it was going to have to be ripped out. £6 later, wow, it's like I have a new bathroom, I had the full bathroom done in the half hour it's very fast and effective."
Another commenter also backed the product while also giving tips on how to keep mould from coming back. They stated: "Clean with Cillit bang mould then paint with anti-mould paint, always leave a window open for ventilation." B&Q stocks several types of anti-mould and anti-condensation paints, with a 2.5-litre tin of Ronseal anti-mould paint setting you back £40.
Cleaning guru shares why you shouldn't make your bed first thing in the morning
One of the best ways to prevent mould from returning once you've cleaned it away is to control the amount of humidity in your home. The bathroom is one of the most humid areas of the house, but you can tackle this problem by cleaning regularly as well as making sure the room is properly ventilated - by opening a window or using an extractor fan.
You can also try investing in a dehumidifier that will wick away moisture and prevent vapour from turning into liquid. These can be electric, such as this one from Amazon priced at £44, or you can buy disposable ones from B&M for around £1.50 each, which we tested earlier in the year.
