Jets add new quarterback to roster after Robert Saleh statement on Zach Wilson
The New York Jets look set to sign a new quarterback following the injury to Aaron Rodgers - despite head coach Robert Saleh's commitment to playing Zach Wilson.
Rodgers sustained an Achilles’ tendon injury for the Jets in their Week One opener against the Buffalo Bills on September 11. The veteran quarterback had taken part in just four players on his NFL debut for the Jets but has now been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Wilson has stepped in to replace the injured Rodgers as the starting quarterback for the Jets. The QB has entered his third season at the MetLife Stadium after being drafted with the second overall pick in 2021.
In the aftermath of the injury sustained by Rodgers, rumours began to swirl over whether or not the Jets would move to sign a new quarterback. And it seems that after two weeks of having Wilson stand in for Rodgers, a decision has been made.
According to , the Jets are moving to sign Trevor Siemian to add to the QB room. Siemian had been on the practice squad with the Cincinnati Bengals earlier in the off-season, and the signing of the quarterback will be completed pending a physical.

It has been stated that should the Jets acquire Siemian, he would initially move to the practice squad rather than the active roster. It has not yet been stated whether Siemian is being signed to battle with Wilson for the starting quarterback role at the MetLife Stadium.
Wilson has played in all three games for the Jets since the injury to Rodgers, including helping the team claim a win over the Bills in Week One. However, the last two games have resulted in losses to the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots.
As a result, there has been criticism from sections of the media on Wilson and whether or not he should continue to be the Jets’ starting quarterback. Despite the outside noise, Jets head coach Robert Saleh stated on Monday that he still had the full faith that Wilson will be a long-term success.
“He’s our unquestioned quarterback, guys,” Saleh told reporters on Monday, via the . “As long as he continues to show in his preparation, the way he’s been practicing and even in these games, guys.
“He’s not the reason we lost yesterday [versus Patriots]. It’s always a team effort. As long as he continues to show improvement, and I know from a box score standpoint it’s not showing, he’s going to be our quarterback.”
