Fussy eaters can be difficult to cook for. But for one family, a disagreement over the husband's 16-year-old daughter has actually resulted in him ending his marriage. The dad in question has his teen girl from his previous marriage and she was just 10 when he met his second partner.

"My daughter grew up sort of a picky eater. For example, she won't eat things like oatmeal, tomatoes, garlic, mushrooms, barbecue ANYTHING salty, or sour, etc. She loves spicy food, sweets, and all that," the dad explained.

"And you could not trick her into eating anything she didn't like. When she was 13, I put 1 garlic clove in the melted butter I was using to make her grilled cheese. I don't know how, but she could taste it, and I knew for a fact the taste wasn't that strong. Her taste senses amazed me. Oh, she ignored me for a whole week and didn't eat anything I cooked for her. I never tried anything like that again)," he added on Reddit.

The dad came home one night after the family had eaten and started to tuck into his plate, which had been set aside for his return. It was then he noticed that the meal consisted of all the things his child doesn't like: garlic stir-fried rice, barbecue chicken, and a vegetable salad consisting of corn, tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach.

He asked his wife what his daughter had eaten - at which point she revealed that the girl had eaten anything since lunchtime. She became defensive when asked why she hadn't switched up the meal to accommodate the daughter's palette, saying she was being dramatic and she would eat if she was hungry.

In response, the man shared that he had then taken his daughter out for dinner and bought her sweets. He said he found out that wife had been purposely buying - she does all the grocery shopping - and cooking food his daughter didn't like. "My daughter has never been one to complain so she has been using money from her pay check and she wasn't going to eat this particular night because she had no intention of pulling money out of her account savings,” he added. "We got home around midnight and my wife was upset that I took my daughter out instead of convincing her to eat her cooking."

He told readers he intended to have a conversation about the issue with his wife - and in a later update revealed he had actually ended the marriage. "It was finally time to break the news to my wife," he shared. "I started the conversation off by asking what she had against my daughter. She was dead silent before I finally spoke again, saying, "I'm divorcing you, so you should start looking for a lawyer. I asked her to explain why she was neglecting and disrespecting my child."

Readers were divided on the issue with some hitting out at the stepmum for isolating the teen. Others, meanwhile, felt that she should be able to cook for herself. One wrote: "Maybe the wife likes the kid, but doesn't like having to adjust every single meal for one person's limited palette? This guy sounds like he wants his wife to be seen as a horrible person for not cooking for a 16 year old."

But another argued: "This is exactly what I do for my kids. It takes nothing to not sauce something, or leave things separate a bit. What the stepmom did was purely out of spite."
