Liverpool host Leicester in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday still riding high from their win over West Ham.

For just the third time this season, the Reds did not have to come back from a goal down to beat the Hammers. The man who instead opened the scoring was Mohamed Salah, firing in from the penalty spot early on.

But Salah has now opened up on the doubts that he had over signing his most recent contract extension last summer. There has been renewed speculation about his future in recent months amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

While Salah discloses those doubts, Jurgen Klopp has been forced to defend himself for his selection calls this season. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest news coming out of Liverpool.

Salah reveals contract doubts

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has revealed there were real doubts that his contract would be extended last summer. As part of a Harvard study, the attacker has opened up on the negotiations between him, Liverpool and his agent Ramy Abbas Issa.

A document shared on Salah’s Instagram profile begins with a message from representative to player saying: “I am starting to fear that we may not be able to come to an agreement on a new contract, Mohamed - their latest offer is still very far from what we want.”

Salah also gave his view on the situation by explaining what his desire was. “I want to stay with Liverpool but the club needs to show that they want me to stay as well,” he explained.

Spurs star lays down challenge

Tottenham star Micky Van de Ven has warned Liverpool that his side have “no fear” and are ready to pull off a major shock this season. Spurs play host to the Reds on Saturday and insist they will be a tough test for Klopp's side.

“I don’t think we have fear for another team. It would be strange if you have fear for another team. If you go into a game and are like ‘what a team they have’ then I don’t think it is positive," he said.

“We are building together something we want to reach this season. I think it is going really well and we help each other. We fight for each other and we have to keep that going. I think it’s maybe going to be a nice year.”

Klopp forced to defend Endo decision

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has defended his decision to restrict Wataru Endo's playing time. Endo joined the Reds in the summer, but has featured for just 91 minutes in the Premier League this term.

"He needs to get used to things here. Wataru is a super guy, very calm and very polite and that cost him the first two weeks, maybe. That's now getting there. He is not 30 or whatever and wants to get some people out of the way to get into the team," Klopp said.

"But he is improving every day. He will help us a lot, he will play games, he will start games and all these kinds of things. It's all good, he had already three or four games now for us in a very short period. Wataru is a super-important part of the squad."
