Alan Shearer has revealed he was confronted by Sheffield United fans as their side were thrashed by Newcastle on Sunday.
Shearer travelled to Bramall Lane with a group of friends and was sitting in one of the hospitality boxes in the home end of the ground. That meant he was surrounded by Blades supporters as they saw their team crash to an embarrassing 8-0 defeat.
The Match of the Day pundit is famously a Magpies supporter and was unsurprisingly celebrating each of his side's goals. That led to him coming under fire from home fans though as their team fell apart.
Shearer has now jokingly hit back that the supporters who did give him grief though, having got the last laugh. The Newcastle legend did also pay tribute to the Blades fans, with many staying until full-time despite their team's awful day.
"Unbelieveable. Eight different scorers, brilliant atmosphere, it was great to be with my pals as a fan for once. I was getting a bit of grief because we were in a pal's box in the Sheffield United fans when I was stood up clapping when we scored," he told The Rest Is Football Podcast.
Newcastle United's Wembley appearance to be marked by a souvenir special
"I don't know what it was but the fans kept doing that [putting two fingers up] to me. I thought they were saying it was 2-2, but I kept saying it was 8-0 you f****** idiots. I have to say the Sheffield United fans were amazing.
"If that was me and my team, I'd have left long before the final whistle, but there were thousands of fans that stayed. It was a tough afternoon for the Sheffield United fans. That today was magnificent from every player.

Newcastle went on to thrash the Blades"Sheffield United were really poor. After two or three minutes I said to one of my friends 'if we don't win this, it's going to be a long season for us'. But they dominated and it could have been, maybe should have been, more."
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was delighted to see his claim such a dominant win. But he denied that it was a "complete performance" from his troops as he insisted there was still plenty to work on.
"It was very good. I don't know whether it was the complete performance. We are always looking to find things to improve. It's a really tough place to come, especially off the back of a European week for us, so I'm delighted with the players," he told Match of the Day.
"If we didn't turn up in the best condition Sheffield United would have beaten us. First of all, we had to attack the game in the way that we normally would. We had to be ready for what they would throw at us, try and quieten the crowd.
"We started really well and got the goal early. That settled us down and we played some really good football after that. It shows you that the players were very motivated for the game. They were hungry for goals and for success.
"I do think we've got a really motivated group. I see really good character traits through the whole squad. It's a long season for us, we've got a lot of challenges to come but certainly the last week has been a return to form for us."
