Devastating EastEnders drug storyline as Jay takes ketamine after Lola's death
In recent weeks, EastEnders viewers have been touched with sadness while watching Jay Brown come to terms with the loss of his beloved partner, Lola, after she lost her battle with a brain tumour.
Jay, who is played by actor Jamie Borthwick, has been struggling with immense grief since his partner Lola, played by Danielle Harold, passed away, leaving him and her daughter Lexi behind.
Although EastEnders fans are still reeling from the final tragic scenes of Lola, they are in for even more heartbreak this winter as Jay is set to turn to drugs amid his heartache. BBC bosses are set to tackle a hard hitting drug abuse storyline, with Jay being at the forefront as he attempts to take the pain of his grief away with the help of drugs.
Harrowing EastEnders drug storyline sees Jay Brown turn to ketamine as he struggles over Lola's death (BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron)In upcoming episodes, Jay will become reliant on lethal party drug ketamine as his life continues to spiral out of control. "It's a controversial storyline, bringing ketamine into millions of homes up and down the country. But the important messages here involving the dangers of hard drugs. Dabbling with ketamine proves a serious wake-up call to Jay. Viewers will be on the edge their seats," a source told The Sun.
It comes as viewers have seen Jay grow close to Nadine, who at first glance, appears to be another version of his late love, Lola. Nadine recently bumped into Jay, who is understandably still struggling following the tragic death of Lola. He ended up staying over with her, finally being able to get some sleep with someone beside him after Lola's passing.

Nadine has caused quite a stir amongst fans, with some convinced she is related to Lola somehow or she has been 'hired' by Emma Harding in her bid to get custody of Lola's daughter Lexi. However, some fans are convinced she is actually a figment of Jay's imagination, with one viewer convinced even more of this after noting a clue in last week's episode regarding a mirror.
As one fan wondered, "I haven't seen these episodes yet but wondering if anyone else on the square has interacted with the character? It may be a storyline that Jay has imagined her," another replied on Reddit: "She ordered a coffee off of Kathy, but Kath was out of shot so we don’t know if she really saw her. Also no one seemed to notice her talking to Jay in the Albert or in the Street and given that they’re all gossips, word would surely already be going around about 'Jay being out with a new bird so fast!'
"I suspect she is probably real. But I have my moments where I wonder if he’s imagined her in some sort of hallucination. She also seemed to have no reflection in the mirror in her flat. And Jay rushed out without paying her for his expensive kip, something she didn’t mention when she saw him in today’s episode. So it’s definitely a bit weird & there’s still room for interpretation at this point!"
Another shared: "Could Nadine maybe be a figment of Jay's imagination?" as a third wrote: "Until somebody else addresses Nadine (Not counting her ordering a drink at Kathy's as Kathy did not talk to her) I don’t believe she is real if/after they do I think she has been hired by Emma to tempt Jay in a sick attempt to temp Jay to discredit him #EastEnders."
EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
