New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is refusing to put a timeline on any potential return from the Achilles injury that wrecked his hopes of a memorable first season with the franchise.

Rodgers sustained an Achilles’ tendon injury in his debut for the Jets against the Buffalo Bills on September 11 in the NFL. The veteran quarterback was on the field for just four plays before he was forced to exit the game and be carted off for medical assessment.

Following an MRI scan, it was later announced that Rodgers was expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season. That leaves former No.2 overall pick Zach Wilson to step in and be the starting quarterback for the Jets.

Rodgers admitted soon after the injury that he had a surprising target of potentially returning to the field for the post-season. The Jets’ Week 17 game against the New England Patriots on January 7 would then be followed by the play-offs should the team have a good enough season.

In his latest appearance on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Friday, Rodgers spoke honestly about his current status of overcoming the injury. Rodgers underwent surgery in his native California on September 13 just two days after sustaining the injury and he is continuing his recovery on the West Coast.

When asked about a potential return to the field, Rodgers did not give an exact time frame as he referenced the ‘darkness retreat’ he took when deciding his future with the Green Bay Packers in February.

"It’s like the reverse darkness retreat," Rodgers joked with McAfee. "Nothing around except for light all the time."

"I don’t want to get caught in the timeline," Rodgers added. "I just want to get healthy, honestly — mentally and physically, honestly.

“But I’m going to do everything I can rehab-wise to put myself in a position to be ready to play football again at some point. That’s the goal.

“I mean, obviously, when this happened, there’s a lot of thoughts about, like, is that it? Cash it in, you’re done?

"I just don’t feel like I am. So, I’m going to put myself in a position to be able to play again and then see when that is."

Rodgers has also admitted that it has not been easy to watch the Jets since the injury. With Wilson at quarterback, the Jets managed to beat the Bills in the same game that Rodgers got injured, but lost 30-10 in Week 2 to the Dallas Cowboys.

"It’s been tough," Rodgers said. "Every single day, it’s tough not to be with the guys, even when they check in or I hear from coaches or whatever.

“It’s great, but it’s also disappointing not to be out there. I’ve been grinding on the rehab and just looking forward to getting back out to Jersey at some point."
