Woman fumes as neighbour sends 'tacky' wedding gift request after invite snub
Finding the right wedding gift for a close friend can sometimes be a difficult task, even if you've known them since childhood. They may appreciate a practical gift that comes in handy at the start of their new married life or a sentimental present that reminds them of their special day for years to come.
Weddings are a joyous occasion as families come together to witness the intimate exchange of vows. However, the aftermath can also lead to tension and fallout if certain friends or family members are snubbed of a wedding invite. One woman says she was left fuming when she received an invite to her best friend's daughter's bridal gift registry without being invited to the wedding and was told she would need to spend over £40 on a luxury gift item.
Writing in the Guest Prudie series on Slate.com, the woman revealed her best friend, whom she's known for 30 years, failed to mention she had a daughter who recently got engaged. She said: "Julia's daughter recently got married. It was a surprise to everyone. We didn't even know she was engaged and there was no wedding."
The woman says she found the "whole thing is just tacky and tasteless" and opted to purchase a congratulations card and nothing else. However, expressing her concerns on the platform, she says she won't know what to say if her friend brings up a conversation about her gift - and fears she could be ruining their long-term friendship.
Responding to the post, author Rebecca Yarros said: "A friendship that's lasted over 30 years is definitely rare and something to be treasured. If Julia's mentioned it more than a few times, it's obviously important to her. However, if you value etiquette over friendship, then be honest with her about your feelings and move on from there."
