Anyone who chooses to sublet their home or property on a site like Airbnb or Vrbo has got to expect a bit of back and forth from guests asking questions or needing additional information. It’s the nature of the business, even if it can be a bit annoying.

One host has been criticized for moaning about an upcoming guest for their incessant communication, with them even considering cancelling their stay over it. Taking to Reddit to get some feedback on the problem, they wrote: “Can I cancel a guest's future stay because they're super annoying?”

The host went on: “We have a guest coming in February, it’s now September. They booked a month before and about once a week the guy asks me some random question that isn’t essential. Like about charcoal for the grill or the shampoo and what’s it mean about only support animals.

“The dude seems super anxious and it’s annoying. I don’t mind asking questions that are important or essential to his stay but these are just random and his stay is months away. Feels like he will be a problematic guest and I just want him to cancel.”

The post was met with a mixed reaction with many people angry with the host. One person wrote: “You can cancel, but you shouldn’t. You will deal with quirky albeit harmless guests from time to time. Just as guests can’t expect every stay to be perfect, hosts can’t expect every guest to be extremely low maintenance.”

Another user added: “They should cancel and delete their account because they sound like an awful host.” And a third person blasted: “Absolutely hilarious, and then you guys wonder why most normal people prefer to stay in the hotels than do this roulette thing with amateur hosts who can't even be bothered to answer a few questions from an individual who likes to come fully prepared for the trip! Please do cancel and suggest they stay at a hotel with proper service and at cheaper rates!”

And someone else scolded: “It’s literally your job. You’re in the hospitality business. Seems like you’re the one that isn’t fit to do this job.” Hoping to lighten the mood somewhat, another Airbnb host revealed they’d had a similar guest who messaged them a lot in the app. However, they figured that perhaps she was a little lonely and excited about her trip so decided to indulge her numerous questions. They finished the story with, “On the day she was to arrive, she messaged us saying that the airline check-in person wouldn’t let her check in because she didn’t have a passport. She was coming from another country. Sigh. You can lead a horse to water and all that.”
