Sophie Turner is likely to be feeling "a lot of anger and resentment" toward Joe Jonas after she claimed he "wrongfully removed" their children when he took them travelling on a holiday.

Sophie has filed a lawsuit in New York asking the court to order the children back to their home in England. According to the court documents obtained by The Mirror, the "wrongful retention" of the children began on September 20, 2023. Sophie insists that the family had intended to make England their "forever home" prior to her and Joe's divorce.

A representative for Joe has instead claimed there is an order in place to prevent either parent from relocating the children. Amid the court drama, relationship expert Louella Alderson has said it will be an emotional time for the former couple.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, she said: "Divorce is a hugely emotional and trying time for most individuals experiencing it, and the added pressure of their public image can only intensify those emotions. It's particularly painful when it's someone you have truly loved and expected to spend the rest of your life with."

Sophie claimed that she didn't know Joe had filed divorce papers and alleged the "marriage breakdown happened very suddenly". Court documents show Sophie claims to have found out about the divorce filing four days later through media reports.

Louella, co-founder of the So Syncd dating app, told us: "If Sophie found out about the divorce through the media, then this is disrespectful and cruel behaviour from Joe Jonas. Divorce is an extremely personal and emotional process, and it's important for both parties to have open communication and mutual respect throughout the proceedings."

She said it's likely to have been "very hurtful" for Sophie to have heard about the divorce through reports. Louella added: "If the news of the divorce caught Sophie completely off guard, then the divorce started out on a rocky foundation, potentially setting the tone for a bitter and contentious process."

Louella also suggested that the public nature of the divorce "could have contributed to the bitterness between Joe and Sophie." She said being in the spotlight would have added "extra pressure".

Amid Joe and Sophie's divorce, reports emerged that their marriage ended after Joe heard or saw something on a Ring doorbell. Some people have claimed these reports came from Joe's media team.

"If it is true that Joe Jonas' camp leaked the rumours about Sophie, then it is another reason for her to feel hurt and upset, which could have led to her pursuing custody over her children in a more formal and legal manner than the informal conversations they may have had beforehand," Louella said. She also said Sophie may feel like she has "no other choice" but to go down the legal road.

"If Joe is withholding his children's passports, as Sophie claims, this can understandably cause a lot of anger and resentment towards him. She might feel like she has no other choice but to take legal action to ensure that she can be with her children and continue living in the same country as them."

Sophie and Joe have also been ordered by the court to avoid "disparaging remarks about the other parent or quiz the children as to the other parent's private life". Louella said this is a "smart move" and can have several positive outcomes.

"It promotes a more civil and respectful environment during legal proceedings," she said before adding that the former couple will be able to communicate in "a more constructive manner". The expert suggested this will "help reduce tension and animosity between them".

Louella added: "When parties engage in bashing each other, it can distract from the relevant facts and legal arguments. By enforcing a ban on bashing, the court can encourage the case to be decided on its merits, promoting fairness and justice."

She also said it will have a positive impact on their emotional wellbeing. "Divorce can already be a draining and emotionally taxing experience, so limiting negative and hurtful comments in court can help mitigate some of the stress," Louella told us.
