A supercomputer that correctly predicted Hamza Yassin’s Strictly Come Dancing victory has chosen this year's winner.

The BBC presenter and professional dancer Jowita Przystal won the coveted glitterball trophy last year, beating Molly Rainford, Fleur East and Helen Skelton in an emotional finale. He was one of the favourites to win after delivering show-stopping ballroom routines, as well as an incredible couples’ choice dance which was inspired by Hamza’s heritage. And the Let’s Go For a Walk host made a return to Strictly during this year’s launch show, and sobbed with joy after he performed alongside Jowita.

A supercomputer from MyBettingSites correctly predicted Hamza would win the trophy, and this year, it made a prediction after considering all of the celebrity contestants, including EastEnders star Bobby Brazier, comedian Les Dennis, reality star Zara McDermott and veteran BBC star Angela Rippon. The computer factors in a range of characteristics such as age, gender, and occupation, and researches previous winners of Strictly from over the last 19 years, before making its prediction.

This year, it was revealed Adam Thomas is most likely to win the glitterball, after the computer tipped the winner to be a 34-year-old male actor. The Emmerdale star, who is 35, has emerged victorious ahead of current bookies’ favourite Bobby, who was tipped to win after it was announced he would be joining the line-up. The supercomputer correctly tipped Hamza to win last year, even though he had odds of 33/1 to beat his fellow celebs, including Countryfile presenter Helen.

The computer looked at textbook traits of previous winners, and concluded that actors or TV presenters were the most successful profession on the dancefloor, after Ore Oduba and Natasha Kaplinsky won the show in 2016 and 2004 respectively. They also revealed an actor in his mid 30s would be a winner, leaving Adam as the only contestant in this year’s line-up who fits the description perfectly. Sportspeople are also more likely to win, with former Olympic gymnast Louis Smith, ex-cricketers Mark Ramprakash and Darren Gough also winning the coveted title.

Despite not fitting the supercomputer’s description of a Strictly winner, actor and model Bobby is still one of the favourites to win at 7/2, and if he does, it will make him the youngest ever contestant to lift the glitterball, taking the crown from Louis who was just 23 when he won with pro dancer Flavia Cacace. However, reality star Zara has been predicted as one of the least likely to win by the supercomputer, as it concluded reality stars don’t have much luck on the dancing show.
