Emmerdale fans slam 'wrong' Jacob and Victoria twist as David's exit 'unveiled'

Emmerdale viewers were quick to slam a "silly" and "wrong" storyline involving two characters on Thursday night, ahead of a separate resident leaving the ITV soap.

Jacob Gallagher shared his feelings for Victoria Sugden on the ITV soap in the latest episode, and the pair almost kissed. Jacob claimed he liked her while Victoria also seemed to reciprocate his feelings, but suggested she was too old for him. Then there's the bigger issue that Victoria dated Jacob's dad David Metcalfe for months, and he's currently trying to get back with her.

Suddenly in the last episode Jacob has developed feelings for his former stepmother, even though he knows his dad is keen to give the romance another try. Victoria, 29, was shown torn between the men, Jacob, aged 20, and David, thought to be 42 years old. But as Victoria suggested she was 'too old' for Jacob, it wasn't the age that got viewers calling out the twist, but more the fact it came out of nowhere and once again Jacob was tipped for romance with one of his dad's partners.

While last time it was an entirely different situation, and a teenaged Jacob was groomed by David's partner Maya in a harrowing sexual abuse storyline, fans still feared it was a repeat in the fact David would be left heartbroken over someone he loved being with his son. Many also predicted this would be how David leaves the ITV soap after actor Matthew Wolfenden quit the show.

Wondering if the "ridiculous" storyline had been rushed and chosen as a way to get David to leave the village, fans hit out at the twist suggesting it was not the best way for him to leave. Taking to social media, one fan said: "Jacob and Victoria are just wrong on so many levels." Another asked: "Since when did Victoria even fancy Jacob? Such a silly storyline," as a third agreed: "Where did Victoria's 'feelings' for Jacob come from."

The comments kept coming too as one read: "What is it with Jacob & his dad’s girlfriends? Ridiculous storyline," while another said: "Jacob and Victoria make no sense it’s come from nowhere." Meanwhile others guessed there was a reason bosses were doing the storyline, with one fan adding: "This is obviously the storyline to get Matthew out but feels a bit of a feeble storyline to end a 20 year run in a job. Tbf Jacob is 21, Vic 29 so what's the issue."

Another said: "This got to be David exit storyline. Victoria is a bit older than Jacob almost 30. Jacob is handsome but he is young. Poor David second time his son going after his ex girlfriends." A third theory suggested: "So is David's exit going to be tied to Jacob & Victoria's inevitable affair? Though I don't want it, they do have chemistry and it seems like the attraction is mutual."
