A woman has been left puzzled after Asda substituted her request for a £45 electric toothbrush for a 47p mouthwash.

Mel Chekera, 25, had made an order to the supermarket expecting a brand-new electric toothbrush.

But she was left scratching her head when only a 47p mouthwash arrived in her delivery.

She had also ordered two brown coconuts from the supermarket but was instead delivered a whopping 35 kiwis in replacement.

Mel has been left baffled by the supermarket's bizarre choices, now demanding to know if a human or robot is responsible for the substitutions decisions.

Although she was left without a much-needed toothbrush, Mel found some humour in the situation.

"This is so funny that you actually can’t be annoyed,” she said.

”I was very confused. Initially, I thought my mum had ordered them because she was following a weird diet.

”It was only when she said to me “what’s that?” I knew it was an error."

Mel questioned why on earth Asda submitted her initial order request in such a bizarre way.

She added: ”Why would Asda do that?

”What is the thought process... is it a computer or a person?

”We don’t usually shop at Asda, we have only shopped there a handful of times to get coconuts.

“I haven’t had any issues with them before, but we don’t usually do an online food shop."

After receiving the insane amount of kiwis, Melissa was left scratching her head at what to do with them.

Although she wasn’t charged for the electric toothbrush, she was left in stitches at Asda offering her a mouthwash from a budget range to compensate.

Mel said: “At first we requested a refund through their online portal which they declined.

“I went on and messaged Asda on Twitter and they said 'Hi Mel, thanks for getting in touch. I agree, that is very random.

”I've refunded you for the order so expect to see this money back in your account in the next three to five days.

”In future, I'd recommend handing the unwanted subs back to the delivery driver, and they can process the refund for you.

”I hope the home delivery had a good laugh because I certainly did.”

Mel shared her hilarious shopping blunder on TikTok.

The clip has since gone viral, raking up over 123,000 likes.

Fellow shoppers rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts on the mishap.

One shopper, called Kaye said: “This is exactly why I turn the substitutes off.

Another, called Kali shared her own experience and said: “I ordered formula for my daughter and got a pregnancy test.”

”I feel like the logic behind the kiwis are they look like tiny coconuts.”

Sarel said: “The mouthwash would have me fuming.”
