Us Brits are always on the hunt for top tips when it comes to laundry. And with household bills set to rise again as winter sets in, quick hacks to help cut down on the use of tumble dryers is top of our list.

Thankfully one cleaning pro has offered some alternative ways on how to dry your clothes - and one of them seems to be a game-changer when you're in a pinch. The expert shared a surprising suggestion for a super quick way to both dry your clothes and get rid of any unsightly wrinkles.

Deyan Dimitrov, CEO of Laundryheap, said: "If you're lacking the time to tumble dry clothes and imminently need them, try using straighteners. Once you have set the device to its lowest setting (approximately 180 degrees), run the hot plates over any wrinkles.

"Any creases should immediately vanish. However, make sure you consider which items you use this technique on, as some delicate fabrics could get damaged. This method works best with cotton T-shirts, shirts and trousers, but always read the label before you start."

Other ideas include using an iron to also dry your clothes by placing a clean towel over the garments and running the iron over the top. Alternatively, he suggests using a fan to dry small items of clothing, the Express reports.

The Energy Trust has revealed that tumble dryers, along with washing machines and dishwashers, account for a huge 14% of households' energy usage. And some dryers can use as much as £1.76 a cycle, which quickly adds up.

While some people choose to hang up their washing around the house and on radiators, it's not advisable given that it can increase the moisture in your home, which can lead to mould and damp. It can also make your clothes smell bad. But it seems that fans of cleaning and homeware guru Mrs Hinch have come up with the answer. Posting in a Facebook group titled 'Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It", one social media user said: "I use a clothes airer with a dehumidifier, it dries faster than my tumble dryer".

Another echoed: "I swear by my dehumidifier. Hang the clothes in the utility room, shut the door and a load is dry in four hours", while a third said: "Wouldn't be without [my dehumidifier]. Scary how much water it takes. No damp problems anymore and our clothes are dry overnight".

Another top tip for drying clothes is to put the washing machine on a high or double spin setting, or even add an extra spin at the end. This is because it can help to remove any excess water which may be left in the clothes, which can cause washing to take longer to dry.
