A group of friends were left stunned when they bumped into King Charles as they cycled around Balmoral estate.

The cyclists spotted the monarch, 74, enjoying a stroll by himself during his "wonderful" summer break in Aberdeenshire.

The king kindly stopped for a chat and wished the group a safe journey as they headed towards Gelder Shiel, which is said to be one of the 'royal' bothies, on the northern edge of Lochagar.

Biker Andrew McAvoy managed to capture the sweet interaction and shared it on his McTrail Rider YouTube channel. In the clip, the group could be seen riding past several Range Rovers before they came across someone walking along the muddy track.

To their surprise, it was the King, whom they had earlier hoped to see, as one of them said: “It would be cool to see Charlie.” During the chat, the King said: “It is wonderful up here. The midges are horrendous. It's typical. I like my walking." The conversation ended with Charles telling them to "take care" and "don't fall off," reports LBC.

Andrew turned to the camera and said: "That was a king. That was pretty cool. What a nice man, lovely man. Had time for us." He continued: "Do you know all I can think of, I wish I met the Queen now."

Earlier this year, a King's guard was praised for stopping to take a photo with a man with Down's syndrome in a rare breach of protocol. Mike van Erp, also known as YouTuber Cycling Mikey, said the youngster had tried to stand near the Guard at Buckingham Palace. In the video, the lovely Guard could be seen moving nearer to them both so they could capture the memory. “What a nice man. What a cool thing to do," the carer said to the young man.

Mike, 50, shared the heartwarming moment online and said he was taken aback by the gesture. He said: "This left me with tears in my eyes for a few evenings. I'm very grateful to the soldier."
