Chiefs coach sends Travis Kelce message as Taylor Swift romance 'confirmed'
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid played down Travis Kelce’s disicpline amid the confirmation of the legendary tight end’s relationship with Taylor Swift.
Kelce missed the season opening defeat at home to the Detroit Lions due to a hyperextended knee injury, and he made his 2023 NFL season debut in the 17-9 road win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kelce caught four passes for 26 yards and a touchdown at TIAA Bank Field.
However, perhaps the 33-year-old was a little too fired up to return to action. He drew two 15-yard penalties - one of which was offsetting - against the Jaguars during a fiery performance.
In the second quarter, Kelce received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty before he was flagged for unnecessary roughness after a brief scuffle with Jaguars safety Rayshawn Jenkins in the fourth quarter. Jenkins also was penalised.
The Chiefs ultimately finished the day with 12 penalties for 94 yards, which undoubtedly frustrated Reid as he assessed the win ahead of Week 3. He explained why Kelce was involved in two incidents, but there is clearly no bad blood between the pair.

“Yeah, Travis was fighting Travis,” Reid said on Monday. “I mean, it was hot. He was getting ‘butched,’ we call it, where they try to bang you up there one way or another. And, you know, he’s trying to get back in the flow. And so he is a perfectionist, this guy.
“And you know, if he feels these off a tick, then he’s going to try to battle through. He gets himself in the right mindset to keep fighting through it, and he did. You’ve got to give him credit. He battled through the thing.
“He made some big catches for us, and he made it through the game after missing the first one, so I’m sure his leg probably didn’t feel 100 per cent. But he’s not going to let you know that, and he’s going to work through it. That’s what he did.”

The pair have been involved in rampant speculation after reports emerged claiming they were ‘quietly hanging out’.
Jason had been quizzed about the pair on Amazon Prime’s coverage of ‘Thursday Night Football’ by NFL legend Tony Gonzalez, but he declined to share. On Wednesday, the Eagles center confirmed his brother is dating Swift. Although he later suggested he was joking.
“Tony kind of blindsided me with that question on Thursday night,” the 35-year-old told WIP Sports Radio. “It’s hard to answer because I don't know a lot of what's happening in Travis' love life and I try to keep his business his business and stay out of that world. But having said that, man, I think they're doing great and I think it's all 100 percent true.”
Kelce and the Chiefs will look to continue winning in Week 3 when they host the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night.
