Outrage over 'creepy' logo on community youth hub offering Bible readings
A community youth group's 'outrageous' centre design has been slammed after people noticed one of the drawings looked exactly like the PornHub logo.
The centre in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland that offers youngsters free Bible readings has been given a bright and colourful facelift. Cartoon favourites like Super Mario and SpongeBob SquarePants sit on the side of the building, alongside a drugs warning reading One Pill Will Kill.
But next to a large football painted on the wall is 'Hub Mara' which looks very much like the adult site's orange black and white symbol. It's almost indistinguishable and there are calls for it to be removed from Castlemara Community Centre immediately after the revamp did not go down well.
The colourful building has been plastered in graffiti - and one piece of artwork in particular has caused outrage (Facebook)It has been dubbed 'creepy' and 'inappropriate' by social media users with the Community Youth Group on the logo in bold white letters, just like the porn website. Reddit users were appalled by what they saw, even if some people did see the funny side, asking if those in charge were even aware.
It sparked hundreds of comments with some calling the graffiti 'sick' and 'depressing'. One user suggested the artist "went tight over the heads of whoever was supervising them". Another posted: "Yeah I'd like to imagine the older kids were given responsibility for the art and the leaders are religious types who have no f***** clue what it's from."
A former youth club member wrote on the group: "Highly possible. I have literally been the young person awarded responsibility for designing and painting the entrance to the youth club I attended when I was a kid." A third put: "The kids using it are mostly primary school aged. This isn't a hilarious prank. This is outrageous."
The Community Youth Group's website reads: "There will be Bible Lessons, Memory Verses, Quizzes and Great Songs. So come along and join the fun."
It comes weeks after PornHub launched a legal battle against a take-away kebab shop for what they say is ripping off their logo. It comes as the giants and several other adult industry members and activists are suing Texas over a new age verification law that requires health warnings to be placed on pornographic content
Döner Haus in Manhattan, US, could "cause confusion" according to MindGeek, the site's parent company. Their white and yellow logo is too similar, according to a cease and desist letter seen by the New York Post. It said it intends to “initiate the appropriate legal actions,” if they do not change its logo.
“We remain mind-boggled as to why MindGeek decided to target us. We are in two completely different business sectors and we see no way how we can be confused with them,” Pauline Phan, Döner Haus’s marketing manager, said.
