Kate Garraway’s friends urge ‘exhausted’ star to ‘slow down’ after health scare
Kate Garraway’s friends have urged the presenter to “slow down” after the Good Morning Britain host suffered a terrifying health scare.
The 56-year-old has been left exhausted while caring for her husband Derek Draper, who was hospitalised with Covid in 2020 and still requires round-the-clock care, as well as the demands of her ITV job, and her two children; Darcey, 17 and Billy, 14. Her friends have rallied around her since she candidly confessed she was rushed to hospital with a suspected heart attack and now they’re pleading with her to slow down.
Kate detailed the emergency dash in her new book, The Strength of Love, and revealed she was taken to hospital from the GMB studios after suffering “excruciating” chest pains, vomiting and being unable to move her arm. The mum-of-two said the overwhelming fear of losing her husband Derek, who had been rushed back to hospital only weeks earlier with “another life-threatening development” led to her developing chest pains, which she admitted had been going on for weeks.

It had never really gone away, just been pushed aside, smothered by my need to get on with things. But now it was overwhelming and I couldn’t ignore it,” she wrote. Tests confirmed she wasn’t having a heart attack, but doctors told her it was a “warning”, and she confessed: “My friends worry that I can’t spend my life forever attached to whether Derek is having a good or bad day, for my own sanity.”
A source told OK! magazine that Kate’s close pals are worried about the effects her health scare – and exhaustion – could have on the presenter, and have desperately urged her to slow down. “She’s barely sleeping so she’s exhausted and has been working on automatic mode recently,” they said, adding that Kate was “juggling too many balls”. Despite her friends rallying around the star to encourage her to take some well-earned time out, they know Kate needs to recognise herself that a break is what she needs most. “She must slow down because it’s impacting her health. Kate is exhausted and can’t carry on like this,” they added.

Kate's husband Derek was hospitalised in March 2020 (ITV)The former I’m A Celebrity.. Get Me Out of Here star has openly shared Derek’s health battles since he contracted Covid in 2020, and suffered serious complications which led to a lengthy stay in hospital, which she described as “months and months of horror”. He finally returned home in 2021, and requires round-the-clock care, but has since been rushed to hospital on numerous occasions as his body still tries to recover from the devastating impact of Covid-19. More than three years since his initial admission to hospital, Kate said her husband, a former political lobbyist, was “terribly, terribly depressed”.
