Federico Valverde has hinted that he could be open to a move to Liverpool should he ever want to leave Real Madrid.

The Uruguayan was linked with a move to Anfield in the summer with the Reds keen to add to their midfield options. They could not thrash out a deal with the Spanish giants and instead signed Wataru Endo from Stuttgart.

However, a switch to Merseyside might not be completely off the table. Talking to reporters after the weekend’s win over Real Sociedad, Valverde hinted that whilst he is currently happy with Real Madrid, the Premier League could be a future destination should he decide to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

Asked about the summer interest in him, he replied: "Premier League offers? I have the possibility of playing for Real. The day I don't feel like that, I will probably look for another solution or Real itself will look for one for me."

Valverde could actually have been a Premier League player earlier in his career. He had previously revealed that he was on trial with North London side Arsena l.

Speaking about his time with the Gunners, the 25-year-old hailed Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez for his assistance. He said: "I have always been grateful to him [Sanchez].

“When I went to train at Arsenal, Alexis was there and he was one of the few who came up to help me. I will always be grateful to him because, being a nobody, I was well-received by him. He was there to help me when I was a kid. As a footballer, he is an incredible player."

Valverde, a 51-time Uruguayan international, has enjoyed an excellent start to the new season. He has started four out of the five LaLiga matches so far and has combined seamlessly with summer signing Jude Bellingham.

He scored his first goal of the campaign in the weekend win over Sociedad. He will certainly be aiming to add to that record throughout the remainder of the campaign after hitting 12 goals last term.

He agreed to a wager with boss Carlo Ancelotti that the Italian would give up his coaching licence should he not hit double figures. He is refusing to do the same this time around though.

"Until I score a couple of goals, I’m not going to bet anything,” Valverde added. “If not, I'll be in hot water. I try to contribute however I can. When you score goals it helps you work harder. To be more motivated."

Valverde has made 209 appearances for Real Madrid since arriving from Penarol. He still has just under four years left to run on his contract with the Spanish giants.
