Pochettino details what he told furious Silva during Chelsea stalemate

Mauricio Pochettino urged Thiago Silva to be "more relaxed" after the veteran centre-back expressed his annoyance at his Chelsea team-mates during their 0-0 draw at Bournemouth.

Silva cut a frustrated figure moments before half-time at the Vitality Stadium. The 39-year-old was in possession at the back after receiving the ball from Robert Sanchez, but there was a severe lack of options when he looked forward. There did not seem to be a pass on for Silva, who bellowed "come on" to his players.

This was a common theme throughout the game, however, as Chelsea struggled to string together passes in the forward areas and created few clear-cut opportunities. Raheem Sterling came the closest when his free-kick crashed off the underside of the bar as they were held to a goalless draw on the south coast.

Speaking after the game, Pochettino was quizzed on why Silva was so frustrated and admitted the ex-Paris Saint-Germain defender should be calmer. The Argentine said: "We were talking with Thiago to be more relaxed because sometimes the defensive player wants to help the team to score and we need to be clever.

"Too many players are still learning about the game and that is constructing a new team and we need to improve. In these types of games when you are pushing, if you cannot win - you cannot lose."

Silva was not the only Chelsea player who appeared to be frustrated with his team-mates, as Conor Gallagher moaned at Enzo Fernandez for not leaving the pitch quickly. The Argentina World Cup winner did not seem in a rush, but Gallagher, who was captain for the day, could be heard telling Fernandez to hurry up.

As for Chelsea, they remain with just one win from their opening five Premier League matches, though Pochettino wasn't too displeased with his side's performance against Bournemouth. He added: "I think again, it is to talk about deserve but the chances we create in the first 20, 25 minutes, I think we deserved in this moment to score but we didn't score.

"Then the game was open, the last 15, 20 minutes I think we wanted to win, sometimes we started to disorganise our defence with the full-backs so high which gave the possibility to make some counter-attacks in transition.

"Disappointed with the result because we wanted to win but of course, we know the circumstances. Again we deserve more but we didn’t get what we deserve."
