'My wedding guests wouldn't stop watching TV - it ruined my special day'

When planning a wedding, brides-to-be will usually envision their loved ones spending quality times together, dancing, laughing, and raising toasts to the future. It's unlikely many will dream of their guests being glued to the TV screen during what should be one of life's most memorable occasions.

Unfortunately, one bride was left horrified when, instead of enjoying the wedding reception, her guests huddled around a TV to watch a fight, and felt she had no choice but to confront them. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old newlywed ended up getting some pushback from guests over the incident, with some looking at her as if she was "crazy".

According to the hurt bride, her wedding took place in a mountainside cabin, overlooking a lake. Following "a nice quick ceremony", guests sat down for dinner and listened to speeches. As stipulated in the invitations, she had wanted the party to be "a little bit formal", with a cocktail dress code. Unfortunately, once the speeches were over, guests ended up gathering in the living room to watch a fight on the TV, leaving her upset.

Taking to Reddit, the bride recalled: "I told my husband it was upsetting me that instead of celebrating the wedding, they were just watching TV. I asked him to shut it off and tell everybody to go outside and enjoy the party. Instead, he argued with me and told me that it would only take 20 minutes. We later talked about it. He understood he was in the wrong and how this was very important to me.

"I ended up asking them myself. Everybody just looked at me as if I was crazy. This caused me to have a panic attack and keep myself in one of the bathrooms for about an hour. My husband was with me the whole time trying to call me down. They eventually turned the TV off and started joining the wedding but this whole issue ruined the wedding for me. I can't stop thinking about it."

The bride now fears she might have gone about things the wrong way, and has reached out to fellow Reddit users for their thoughts on the matter. A number of people completely understood why she was so unhappy about the incident, and reassured her that she'd done nothing wrong.

One person commented: "It never should have crossed their minds to turn the damn thing on in the first place. Just because the TV was there didn't give them the right to decide to watch it. They agreed to join your day and celebrate with you, so that is what they should have done."

Another advised: "Incredibly rude behaviour at a wedding. They are not at a sports bar. Your husband was 100 per cent wrong to even justify it for a second. It's a special day that should be honoured by your guests. All those attendees are ***holes as was your husband."
