Barcelona are weighing up a loan move for Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho, according to reports in Spain.

The forward's future at Old Trafford is in major doubt after his public clash with manager Erik ten Hag, who has refused to confirm whether or not the former Borussia Dortmund man will play again whilst he's the manager in Manchester.

Sancho was left out of the loss at Arsenal with a host of options preferred ahead of the Englishman. His career at Old Trafford has been hampered by inconsistencies but Barcelona could offer him a brief exit route away from the Premier League.

Spanish outlet Sport claim that Barcelona are 'keeping a close eye on his situation' as they consider making a loan offer in the New Year. Sancho has previously excelled in Europe when he played in the Bundesliga, but hasn't replicated that form in Manchester.

The Catalans have the likes of Ferran Torres, Raphinha and Joao Felix on their books as wide forward options. They did allow Ansu Fati to leave late in the summer window for Brighton though and may seek a replacement. United will be wary of Barcelona's financial restrictions, which almost curtailed their loan moves for the likes of Felix and Joao Cancelo, with Sancho reportedly earning in excess of £200k-a-week.

The club's financial issues have been well publicised and they're currently forking out to redevelop the Nou Camp. Earlier this week Barcelona saw their spending power restricted by LaLiga, meaning they can only fork out €270m (£232m) on new talent - which includes their wages.

The Red Devils paid £73m to land Sancho just over two years ago, but he's struggled to make the desired impact. The noise surrounding his future continues to gather volume and Ten Hag refused to confirm he'd play for him again.

He said: “I don’t know. I am sitting here. [Saturday] we have a big game, we are going into a new block of games, many games in a condensed programme. I will focus on that.”

Questions were asked about the United manager's decision to publicly criticise Sancho's training standards, which led to the player hitting back. But Ten Hag has stood by his decision. “I am always honest," he said. "You have to keep things inside [the club], but you can’t. When I am asked the question, I will be honest.”
